Act will create jobs, aid state's economy

The American Clean Energy and Security Act will provide clean energy jobs for America, reduce our addiction to oil and make our country a leader for the 21st century. This comprehensive climate and energy legislation was passed out of the House Energy and Commerce Committee with bipartisan support and has been endorsed by leaders in business such as Duke Energy, AEP and Nike; labor; veterans' affairs; faith and the environment.

Edwards and other opponents are trying the same old tactics that have been used for years to thwart progress on clean energy: throwing around a lot of scary numbers and falsely claiming that global warming isn't real.

Climate bill would be a net gain for federal budget, says CBO

Were it to become law, the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES) would be a net gain for the federal Treasury, according to a new report from the Congressional Budget Office.

The report finds that the bill, sponsored by Reps. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and Ed Markey (D-Mass.), would raise roughly $845.6 billion in federal revenue from 2010 to 2019, while it would call for about $821 billion in direct federal spending over that period. Bottom line:  a $24.4 billion net gain for the Treasury.

Clean Energy Jobs discussed at Repower, Refuel and Rebuild America Forum

The Repower, Refuel and Rebuild America Forum was held at the Truman Library on April 6th in Independence Missouri.  Opening remarks where made by Geoff Jolly, District Director for Congressman Emanuel Cleaver of Kansas City.  The panel of speakers included Antonia Herzog, Ph.D. with the Natural Resources Defense Council, Bob Berkebile who is an architect at Berkebile Nelson Immenschuh McDowell, Steve Mahfood, past director of Missouri Department of Natural Resources, John Hensley of the Wind Capital Group, and Bridgette Williams, president of Kansas City AFL-CIO. Hosted by the Show Me Your Solutions Campaign (www.showmeyoursolutions.org) focused on how by investing in renewable sources of energy in addition to improving the efficiency of homes and buildings, economic growth will expand with new green jobs and will boost employment in Missouri while reducing our dependence on foreign oil.

The discussion also including information regarding federal energy policy including cap and trade legislation that is expected to be marked up in the Senate Energy and Commerce Committee towards the end of this month.
